One Sunday in August, we decided to escape to Trillium Lake at the base of Mt. Hood, site of our first date spot in Portland, for a swim and a picnic. On the way we had to stop at a gas station for some ginger ale because my tummy was in knots. It was a beautiful day but very hot in the sun. We had our sandwiches and changed to go swimming, but I suggested we go on a walk in the woods first. She was wearing Hokas (because she broke her toe picking up a table from Facebook Marketplace) and a towel when I told her that I loved her a lot and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. She said “OK,” and there were happy tears running down her cheeks. Then we went swimming together.
